Starting from July 1, significant changes are coming to the social media and advertising landscape in Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has announced that social media influencers and establishments involved in advertising must now obtain a license to operate legally. Failure to comply with this new regulation can result in hefty fines and even the closure of businesses.

Why This Matters

With the rise of digital platforms, the advertising industry has seen an influx of social media influencers and online businesses. To ensure that all advertising activities are conducted legally and transparently, ADDED has implemented these new regulations. This move aims to professionalize the sector and provide a structured framework for advertising services.

Here are the key points about the new regulations:

  • Effective Date: The new regulations come into effect on July 1.
  • Penalties: Operating without a license can lead to fines up to Dh10,000 and may even result in the closure of the business.
  • License Acquisition: Licenses can be obtained through the Tamm platform by accessing the ‘Department of Economic Development Services’ and selecting the desired advertising activities.
  • Fees: The license fee for individuals is Dh1,250, while for companies, it is Dh5,000.
